It's Christmas time in the city
But to tell you the truth
it ain't so pretty
The boots on your feet slosh through the street
and I feel I owe ya an apology
You see honey,
I've been trying
To tell the truth and to stop my lying
And it's not like me,
But I believe that I've seen through myself
And found you.
But the lights on the tree tonight don't mean that much to me
You know, you have the power to make a man feel small
and it's late and I'm tired
(Try to sleep)
Ya see honey I'm still trying
to be myself and remember that I am
the one who takes the fall
it's all I've got
And now I'm stuck
'cause I've seen through myself.

Maybe It's Just Me
03:40
|
|||
There have been times
where I think I'd rather be
on a one-way trip
to the moon with only me
Who knew that yesterday could feel like a distant dream?
But it does.
Or maybe it's just me.
And it's true
that it's difficult to find
someone who can understand
your soul and mind
and you feel like it's happening to everyone but me
till it does...
Or maybe it's just me
Maybe it's just me
who wants to think things impossible are true
and maybe it's just me
who likes to think
things are bigger than themselves
when I'm with you
and maybe it's just me who wants to know
someone's there

He walks down the street with his head by his feet
A shell of a guy we once knew
She took over his life
and ripped out his spine
He thinks and he acts 92
But creatively, he never moved me
he sucked out the life from the room
Now as we get old
he won't be alone
surrounded by all of his fools.
Not known for conflict
But constantly fights
and lets others know through the mill
She's certified crazy
he's taught to ignore
the 30-odd bottles of pills
so when he wakes up
I hope that he will appreciate everything real
I have given him
but chances are slim when up against hearts that don't feel
I'm up against hearts that don't feel.

I had a dream where I flew far away
to a rock
looking for answers to me and you
discovering, and writing down what I found
that I found a new home, I found we're not alone!
They were living their lives
trying to find a meaning
they could not confide
in the possibility that they just might have to start again
When I was a kid
I always thought we were alone in the world
but now I know there's living things everywhere
life isn't rare
and curiosity seems to be a part of all of us
What if this is all there is?
Imagine that there's nothing after this
what if this is all there is?
And we'll live out our lives
trying to find it's meaning
until we can think past steadfast beliefs
cause if we really looked
I think we'd find that I am You
and You are Me
and we play a part in this grand mystery
and we might not have to start again

Why are there so many songs about rainbows,
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions
but only illusions
and rainbows have nothing to hide
So we've been told
and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong
wait and see
Some day we'll find it
the rainbow connection
the lovers, the dreamers,
and me.
Who said that every wish could be heard and answered
when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
and someone believed it
but look what it's done so far
What so amazing that keeps us star gazing?
And what do we think we might see?
Some day we'll find it
the rainbow connection
the lovers, the dreamers,
and me
All of us under its spell
we know that it's probably magic.
Have you been half asleep
and have you heard voices
cause I've heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound
that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
it's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it
the rainbow connection
the lovers, the dreamers,
and me.

Sittin' in a hotel lobby waiting for the bus to come
to pick me up from this hell called monotony
Have you ever tried to sound profound
when nothing's comin out?
Umm...uhhhmm...
But that was when I met her
she was just a kid!
But it was the best kid-advice that I have ever heard.
It's just a test
that's what she said
don't let it get to your head
and everyone should live their dreams
no one can tell you what that means
What do I really wanna write?
my routine has me chromatically
declining into oblivion
then BOOM!
A sucker punch in the face
tells me it's not too late
to make music with everyone
Yeah life (life!) can be easy to sweat about
but don't you forget about
your life is what you make of it
Hey man
not all things last
that's the beauty of it
this is the show and it can't wait for you or me

Forks

They packed up the car with his things
it was almost time to go
they'd done all they could
it was up to him
"no turning back," they said
he set out to change the world.
You're 45 minutes away
but to me that's a lifetime
and this part is hard
but oh, The Places You'll Go
And on and on and on
but he knows
he knows how it feels
to be cast out
and unwanted
and so he left the path
and felt lost
but it seems to me
a bright light was found
in the deep underground
and as you walk
in the dark
you'll hear your thoughts
"some of us search and find something,
and some find nothing at all"
Yeah, some of us search and find something
and some find nothing at all
but the truth is...
I know how it feels to be cast out and unwanted
and so,
I chose a path
and still walk.
But it seems to me
the paths that we find
lay deep in our minds
and hearts
and hearts will part
but I know this feeling to well now
I know I'm alive to reach my potential
if I should fail
I've been all I could be
la la la la

Did you see that?
It passes by in a blink of an eye
Did you feel it fading away?
Can you tell me
who designed this whole plot?
Cause I'm trying to focus
And I'm trying to turn out right
and I'm trying to slow down
The years go by faster than I would like
it's getting harder to find the time
What ever happened to all the plans I had?

If I Could See Me Now
02:43
|
|||
A musician without a band
is like a child without a friend
or a song without an end
When an artist is getting worse
that's a chorus without its verse
or a burial that came first
If I could see me now...
Sometimes I think I need a change
but don't know how
when ends seem so far away
no when
no why
or how
but if only I could see me now
I'm moving forward
but not too fast
I'm waking up to a young romance
While remembering what didn't last
But I'm laughing
but still not thrilled
I'm creative
but feel distilled
Yeah I'm happy
but not fulfilled
And I don't hide those feelings anymore
What once I had
is not there
Can you stay compelled to stand out in a crowd?
But if only I could see me now.

I wondered when you'd find me here
A lonely place I've come to know
when it's hard to turn off.
I caused the scars on my face
and I built the walls in this place
a cast of thousands have come and gone
no one said it'd be easy.
it's not easy.
Our stories are a waltz and lullaby
let's dance so we all can understand
that a song is a way
to say anything
and learn the meaning of our lives.
